The lighting used in this image is low-key lighting as we can see the light coming from a lower angle which highlights a side of her face. The contrast is not as harsh as the other photos, as the shadow on the right side of her face is not so strong. This creates a softer impression towards her face, but also a mysterious one as the darkness over powers the light which suggests that there may be two sides to her, her gaze towards an unknown subject also contributes to this mysteriousness. Lighting has also been used to emphasise on the smoke, however where this lighting is coming from is rather vague.
The lighting used in this image is high-key lighting as we can see the lighting is coming from above. By using this lighting the features of this woman are more emphasised such as her cheekbones and nose structure which appear much more sharper and defined because of the shadows being created. The use of high-key lighting allows more focus towards her face and submerges the rest of her body into darkness, which creates a strong contrast between her face and the rest of the background.

The lighting used in this image is low key lighting as it shows most of the characters face with little shadow. This accentuates the characters features by making his jawline more bold and have stronger features which show his masculinity. This makes the character seem like someone who has much power and strength as the features aren't so soft which would have been the result if notan lighting was to be used.

The lighting used in this image is chiaroscuro. This creates a contrast on the side of his face and puts one side of the characters face into darkness. This creates a sense of evil and makes the character look like the villain as we do not get a clear shot of his face, and the shadows created are more dominant than the light that is visible.

Low key lighting has been used in this image which creates a background shadow. This lighting adds onto the mysterious effect that has been created apart from her shocked expression as there is a strong contrast between the background and the character, As there are no shadows on her face the viewer is clearly able to see her expression which is useful as the audience is able to decode her emotions.

The lighting used in this image is low key lighting. This creates a shadow beneath her neck which emphasises on her praying as her head is tilted up. The low lighting doesn't create a shadow on her face which allows the viewer to decode her facial expression and focus more on her more.
The lighting used in this image is top lighting which makes the characters look more attractive and glamorous as it highlights their features. Apart from their embrace the lighting suggests that there is a bit of romance as it doesn't create a shadow on their face which allows the viewer to decode their facial expressions.

The lighting used in this image is notan lighting which creates a natural effect on the characters. It does not create any sharp contrasts or shadows on their faces but instead highlights their features and makes them look more softer. The shadows created by the blinds supports the idea of it being notan lighting as the light is coming from a natural source.

The lighting in this image used is backlighting. This creates silhouettes and distorted shadows of the characters which emphasises on the lack of knowledge the viewer has on their identity. This could probably be a scene of a sci-fi movie as we are unaware of their identity.

The lighting used in this image is chiaroscuro. This creates a shadow in the background and puts half of her features in the darkness. It emphasises on the fear that is on her face and suggests that something may be wrong as the image is predominantly in the dark.

Mise-en-scene

Still image: Dracula 1930.

As this still image is from a film made in the 1930's, the representations of men and women are different to the representations of men and women in the modern day. This can be shown through the facial expressions and body language of the cast. The woman is in her most vulnerable state, sleeping while the man, Dracula, seems to have the opportunity to over power her as he is gazing down on her and he is above her suggesting that he is more superior. The lighting used is notan. This makes the scene seem natural which makes you feel as if you are also part of the scene.
